High pressure in the Atlantic deteriorates maritime conditions north of the island

An area of high pressure over the western Atlantic Ocean continues to push northeasterly winds over the island this Sunday, driving downpours and deteriorating maritime conditions for the municipalities exposed to those waters.

The National Meteorological Service (SNM) issued a warning to operators of small boats that frequent that area.

According to meteorologist Lee Ann Ingles Serrano, these precarious conditions at sea are expected last until midweek, “resulting in waves of up to seven feet and a high risk of ocean currents”.

On the other hand, rain activity will continue the same pattern as Saturday, when some downpours were received mainly in the south-southwest of the island, although not as intense as during last week.

“The rain activity could be starting around noon. “It will be moderate to intense at times and you could have isolated thunderstorm activity and you could also be generating accumulation of water that generates minimal flooding in urban areas.”reported Ingles Serrano.
