“IF” dominated the cinema box office in a successful premiere

John Krasinski’s film about imaginary friends “IF” was the highest grossing this weekend in the United Stateswhen collecting $35 millionaccording to industry estimates released Sunday.

With the actions of Ryan Reynolds and Cailey Flemingand the voices of Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Louis Gossett Jr., Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Maya Rudolph“IF” was the brainchild of Krasinski, who wrote the script, directed it and stars in it.

Paramount released the film, which reportedly cost $110 million to produce, in 4,041 theaters in North America. On an international level, raised $20 million in 56 marketsfor a $55 million global debut.

“IF” had a mixed review (49% “rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes), but audiences gave it an A on CinemaScore. The studio considers it a successful release and is optimistic about its durability as summer begins and children begin their school holidays.
