Inoperative since Hurricane Maria: the fight for a permit to reopen the Crash Boat fishing village

Almost seven years after Hurricane Mariathe Crash Boat fishing village remains inoperative despite the self-management of the fishermenwho ask that the contributions that the space has had for more than a century in Aguadilla, and that the agencies concerned act quickly to allow them to recondition and get back to work the place where generations have lived.

Several years ago, the Villa del Ojo Fishermen’s Association has tried to operate their new fishmonger, in a wagon equipped for it, which was donated to them. But, the effort has not been possible because they do not have the necessary authorizations.

“After Hurricane Maria, unfortunately, our town was the most affected, where it was completely lost and, from that moment on, the 150 years of history of a fishing town were of no use to us”, express Felix Morales Blassecretary of the Association, who considers that rehabilitating the space in which he grew up “is a right acquired over the years we have been in.”
