Irad Ortiz Jr. and Jaime Torres will be the active Puerto Rican riders in the Preakness Stakes

Irad Ortiz Jr. and Jaime Torres will represent Puerto Rico among the jockeys who will be active in the 149th edition of the Preakness Stakes this coming Saturday at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

The race for the second leg of the Triple Crown of American horse racing will start at 7:01 p.m.

Contrary to the Kentucky Derby, Puerto Ricans John Velazquez and Jose Luis Ortiz will not be active in the Preakness Stakes.

Incidentally, Jose Luiz Ortiz and Velazquez were the winners of the last two editions of the Preakness Stakes. Ortiz won with Early Voting in 2022 and Velazquez in 2023 with National Treasure.

For Torres it will be his first ride in a Triple Crown race. He will be riding the Seize the Grey, trained by D. Wayne Lukas.

I do not have words to describe it“Torres said on the Paulick Report portal. “I am very grateful for the opportunity from MyRacehorse and (trainer) Wayne Lukas.”
