Iran closes Turkish airline office after employees allegedly refused to wear hijab

The police of Iran Turkish Airlines closed its office after female employees of the Turkish airline apparently refused to wear the mandatory headscarf, or hijab, in defiance of Iranian law, local media reported Tuesday.

The semi-official Tasnim news agency said police officers went to the Turkish Airlines office in the capital Tehran on Monday to issue a first warning over “non-observance of the hijab” by female employees of the company.

However, the employees, who are Iranian nationals, “caused problems for the officers,” leading to the closure. According to Tasnim’s report, the police sealed off the office because of the employees’ behavior.

According to Tasnim, the Turkish Airlines office will be able to reopen on Wednesday and resume normal operations, something that the police did not confirm. According to the report, the police will not seal off any businesses for not wearing a hijab, but will issue initial warnings.
