“It is a very big project”: Jump, Jose Juan Barea’s ambitious sports complex in Hato Rey, could open at the end of 2024

Two years and three months after announcing the creation of an ambitious sports complex named “Jump” in the heart of Hato Rey, the dream of the former player of the NBA Puerto Rican Jose Juan Barea could finally open at the end of this year.

The first phase of Barea’s project with businessman and hotelier Ricky Newman will have four indoor basketball courts, six volleyball courts, an outdoor soccer field, a gym, a multipurpose room for the development of children (two to five years ) and a 22-room hotel with 111 beds.

Barea -current leader of the Guaynabo Mets in the National Superior Basketball (BSN) and Newman hosted several media Tuesday for a tour of the five-string (9,000-square-foot) facility. The complex is in the space where the Nuestra Senora de la Merced Catholic school was, a campus where sports stars such as former New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada studied.
