“It’s not the usual”: federal officials explain how gang impacted in Ponce consolidated its power and generated 3 million

The gang hit by a federal operation in Ponce this Thursday generated an estimated $123 million since 2016 after the alleged leader managed to consolidate control of the drug points of five residential areas that generated sales 24 hours a day.

This was explained by the head of the Homeland Security Investigations Office (HSI), Rebecca Gonzalez.

“This organization is a little different because it has complete control of five residential areas, which is not usual,” said Gonzalez. “There are many drug points that are working seven days a week, 24 hours a day.”

“Usually, the area of control of organizations is not so many points. We have organizations that have control of areas, of two residential areas… But this individual controlled five, which are large,” he added. “That continuous operation is what generates those annual profits… (they were selling) all the time.”
