Jenniffer Gonzalez asks that an energy emergency be declared at the federal level for Puerto Rico

The resident commissioner and candidate for governor of the New Progressive Party (PNP), Jennifer Gonzalezindicated on Wednesday night that it will seek to declare an energy emergency in Puerto Rico at the federal level, this after the most recent blackout that left thousands without energy service in several regions of the country.

“Beyond assigning responsibilities, it is the sense of urgency with which we have to work on things. At the federal level, what I am suggesting is that Puerto Rico declare itself in an energy emergency situation so that any procedure with federal agencies can be expedited.”Gonzalez said in a broadcast on his social networks.

The resident commissioner ruled that the situation is dangerous and “lives are at stake” due to the lack of electrical service.

Over 300,000 people were in the dark on Wednesday night in the regions of San Juan, Carolina, Bayamon and Caguas. Luma Energy, in charge of energy transmission and distribution in Puerto Rico, said it was working to identify the fault that caused the blackout and to stabilize the system to energize the affected customers.
