Jenniffer Gonzalez describes the inclusion of language for the incorporation of Puerto Rico into SNAP as “a step forward”

The resident commissioner in Washington, Jennifer Gonzalezdescribed this Thursday as “a step forward” the inclusion of the language that would open the door for the incorporation of Puerto Rico to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, in English), while rejecting that the determination was influenced by the meetings that the governor Pedro Pierluisi He held this week with congressmen.

“It is much easier to get something out of a bill than to get it in. So this is a great achievement. Now, this has to be evaluated in the committee of the Senateapproved in the Senate and approved in the House”expressed Gonzalez, to questions from The new day.

According to the Senate Agriculture Committee chairwoman’s summary of the legislation, Debbie Stabenow –which specifies the measures that will be in his agricultural bill–, the transition process of the Nutrition Assistance Program (PAN) to SNAP in Puerto Rico could take up to a decade.
