Joe Biden seeks support from union leaders as he tries to calm worried Democrats

President Joe Biden met on Wednesday with the largest federation of trade unions USAin an effort to gain the support of a key constituency while counterattacking the continued calls to withdraw from the 2024 election campaign.

Biden met with the executive council of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), a group representing 12.5 million members.

“I think of them as my local NATO — I kid you not,” the 81-year-old Democrat told the crowd gathered at his headquarters. He praised the power of unions and spoke of his support for them, telling the crowd that even Wall Street recognized the power of unions, as he again articulated his vision of an economy built “from the bottom up and the center out.”
