Joel Embiid confirms that he was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy

Philadelphia- Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid was diagnosed with facial Bell’s palsy, which he acknowledged has affected him since before the NBA mini-tournament.

Embiid wore sunglasses on the podium after he scored 50 points in the Sixers’ game three victory over the New York Knicks and says he has several symptoms that blur his vision and keep his eyes dry.

Embiid said he started having symptoms “a day or two” before the Sixers face the Miami Heat on April 17 in the mini-tournament. Embiid had 23 points and 15 rebounds in the victory that sent Philadelphia to the postseason.

“My body was, it didn’t feel good,” he admitted. “Yes, it’s quite annoying. The left part of my face, my mouth, my eye. It has been difficult. But I don’t give up. I’m going to continue fighting everything. It’s unfortunate, that’s how I see it. But it’s not an excuse. I have to keep pushing.”

Embiid, last season’s MVP, made 13 of 19 field goals and 19 of 21 free throws, as well as five three-pointers in the last game.

The Knicks lead the series 2-1. Game Four is Sunday in Philadelphia.
