Josue Espada on his first victory as a manager in the Major Leagues: “I couldn’t be happier”

The Puerto Rican Joshua “Joe” Espada made history Monday night in the 10-0 victory of his Houston Astros about the Toronto Blue Jays, but he said very little about himself as a leader and gave all the credit to the hero of the night, Dominican pitcher Ronel Blanco.

Blanco, 30, pitched a complete game without allowing a hit, making the Astros the fourth team in Major League history to achieve their first victory in a season with a ‘no hitter’, and in the process, make the Puerto Rican leader Espada the first manager whose first victory in the Major Leagues at the helm of his team is a game without hits. The Puerto Rican debuted as a manager this season and started with four losses against the Yankees.

“I couldn’t be happier with how today turned out,” Espada said in the post-match press conference.

From now on, Espada, who was named leader of the Astros in the timeout shortly after finishing the last 2023 season, spent his time talking about the Dominican’s mountain gem.
