Judiciary and Fiscal Board talk “behind the scenes” to give judges a salary increase

A little more than a month before the end of the current fiscal year, the presiding judge of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, Maite Oronoz Rodriguezstressed this Tuesday that he continues in conversations with the Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF) to give way to the salary increase of the judges on or before June 30.

We are working on the issue behind the scenes with the Board. The moment I have something specific to announce, I will do so. The judges expect that. There has always been openness (of the JSF)“, assured Oronoz Rodriguez, accompanied by the administrator of the Office of Court Administration (OAT), Sigfrido Steidel Figueroa.

We are waiting for the Board to give its approval. We are in talks“, he added, in an aside with the press, after announcing the inauguration of a new room for minors in the judicial region of Caguas.

Likewise, he recalled that the Supreme Court issued a ruling, earlier this year, in which it endorsed the judge’s determination Anthony Cuevasof the Court of First Instance of San Juanwhich declared in place the demand that demanded the entry into force of the salary increase for the togados, and ordered the government to carry out the necessary procedures to begin paying the increases.
