Legacy of love for football and its land

Joseph Marc “Joey” Serralta Ives arrived in the city of Houston, Texas 43 years ago to complete his post-secondary studies in communications, as he received a scholarship from the Christian University in that city, to join the soccer program of the institution, classified as division 1 in sports.

There he broke records and transformed the sports project along with six other students who arrived at that time from Puerto Rico, to the point of placing themselves among the first 25 teams in the United States.

However, an unexpected situation disrupted the plans of the athlete who was attacked by a gang after a musical event, suffering a stab wound to the chest, so he was transferred to the island where he came to convalesce.

Despite the danger to his life, Joey felt that “I was born again in February 1982. It is part of my testimony of being alive.”
