Luis Abinader is close to re-election as president of the Dominican Republic

Luis Abinader seems to retain the command chair in Dominican Republic with a re-election in the first round, according to the newspaper Daily List.

The candidate of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), and other allied organizations, took victory this Sunday with 38% of the tables counted, with a percentage of 59.24% of the votes, according to the primary bulletin of the Central Board Electoral (JCE).

Abinader, who arrived at the electoral tournament as the main favorite against his nine contenders (seven men and two women), would remain in power for the next four years (2024-2028), thus achieving two consecutive terms.

The re-elected president appeared in the elections facing two popular candidates on this election day: Leonel Fernandezcandidate of the People’s Force (FP), who, in this 20%, achieved 26.91% of the votes, and Abel Martinezof the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), who only obtained 10.63 of the votes, in this first delivery of votes.
