Man who gave orders with a megaphone in the assault on the United States Capitol is sentenced to more than 7 years in prison

Washington— A man from the state of Washington who used a megaphone to orchestrate the attack on guards protecting the US Capitol He was sentenced Wednesday to more than seven years in prison.

Judge Royce Lamberth said that videos captured Taylor James Johnatakis when he assumed a leadership role in the January 6, 2021 riot. Johnatakis led other rebels to attack a police line, “shouted orders” through the megaphone and gave step-by-step instructions to subdue the guards, the judge said.

“In any angry mob, there are leaders and there are followers. Mr. Johnatakis was a leader. “He knew what he was doing that day,” the judge said before sentencing him to seven years and three months in prison.

Johnatakis, who represented himself with a lawyer as advisor, has repeatedly expressed rhetoric apparently inspired by the anti-government “sovereign citizen” movement.. He asked the judge questions during the sentencing statement, such as “Was it recorded that I repent of my sins?”
