Marcus Stroman strikes out nine, Anthony Rizzo hits a home run and the Yankees defeat the Athletics

NY- Anthony Rizzo snapped a long offensive drought with a two-run homer that was part of a four-run first-inning rally, and the New York Yankees held on to beat the Oakland Athletics 4-3 on Tuesday.

A day after being shut out for the fourth time in their first 23 games, the Yankees found themselves at a disadvantage when Seth Brown hit an RBI double in the first inning off pitcher of Puerto Rican descent Marcus Stroman (2-1).

Giancarlo Stanton hit a go-ahead double off Paul Blackburn (2-1) in the bottom half and Rizzo hit his second homer of the season, first since April 7. He only had one extra-base hit in 54 at-bats between his previous home run and this one.

Blackburn had not allowed a home run in his previous four starts this season.

Stroman (2-1) struck out nine – his most since pitching for the New York Mets against San Francisco on August 17, 2021. Shea Langeliers homered in the second frame and Lawrence Butler in the fourth.
