Maria Milagros “Tata” Charbonier appeals her guilty verdict

The former representative Maria Milagros “Tata” Charbonier Laureano and her husband, Orlando Montes Rivera, officially notified the Federal Court in San Juan that they will appeal the guilty verdicts and sentence against them.

“Mrs. Charbonier Laureano hereby notifies her intention to appeal her conviction and sentence in the aforementioned case,” indicates a motion from her lawyer, Francisco Rebollo, presented this Thursday before Judge Silvia Carreno Coll.

A similar motion was filed simultaneously by Montes Rivera through his attorney, Anita Hill Adames.

While, The Federal Prosecutor’s Office opposed Charbonier Laureano’s request to remain on bail throughout the duration of the process before the Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston.

Prosecutor Jonathan Jacobson argued that the court should deny the request because his appeal does not meet the requirement of having “a matter that could result in a reversal or an order for a new trial on all charges.”
