Maryland governor declares emergency after bridge collapse in Baltimore

Baltimore— Maryland Governor Wes Moore declared a state emergency on Tuesday after the collision of a cargo ship caused the collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge, through which more than 30,000 vehicles.

For his part, the secretary of transportation, Pete Buttigiegsaid that the search for missing people continues and urged divers in the area of Baltimore that the instructions of the relief agencies be followed.

The more than two-kilometer-long bridge, which is part of the I-695 interstate highway, is one of the most important routes between New York and Washington.

The collapse occurred after, around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, the cargo ship “Dali” collided with a pillar in the central segment of the four-lane bridge and that is vital for communications in the northeast of the country.

The landslide swept several vehicles into the Patapsco River, where at least two people have been rescued..
