THE ANGELS- Julio Urias, the Mexican pitcher of the Los Angeles Dodgerswas arrested near the BMO stadium, where the Argentine star Lionel Messi He played an MLS game on Sunday night in front of a crowd of celebrities.
Exposition Park security personnel reported that Urias was arrested around 11:00 p.m. inside the park in which the stadium is located. Police did not immediately specify the charges against Urias.
ESPN reported that the arrest was related to domestic violence charges.
Urias posted bail of $50,000 and was released shortly before 5:00 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County police registry.
He will have to appear in court on September 27.
The 27-year-old lefty was arrested in May 2019 for domestic violence. Urias served a 20-game suspension, decreed by the Big leagues. But he was not charged by Los Angeles prosecutors under the condition of completing a 52-week domestic violence program.
The Dodgers traveled to Miami on Monday, where they will begin a six-game road trip against the Marlins on Tuesday. Urias was scheduled to open on Thursday at the close of the series.
“We know about the incident involving Julio Urias. “While we try to gather the facts, he will not travel with the team.”The Dodgers said in a statement without offering further details.
Urias is 11-8 with a 4.60 ERA this season. He earns a salary of $14.25 million, in the final year under salary arbitration. He will be a free agent at the end of the season.
He was instrumental in the Dodgers being crowned World Series champions during the shortened 2020 season. Urias pitched the final two and a third innings for the save in the sixth and decisive game. It was the franchise’s first championship since 1988.
The left-hander’s best season was in 2021, when he led the National League with a 20-3 record.
