MJ Melendez comes out of a losing streak with a home run and the Royals beat the Orioles

Kansas City— Vinnie Pasquantino and MJ Melendez each contributed home runs as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Baltimore Orioles 9-4 on Friday, who saw their four-game winning streak derailed.

Adley Rutschman hit the first grand slam of his career for Baltimore, in the seventh inning off Will Smith.

Dean Kremer (0-2) retired his first 11 opponents before Pasquantino found a 1-1, split-fingered fastball into the right field bullpen for four homers.

Puerto Rican Melendez ignited a five-run attack in the sixth inning with an RBI single that allowed him to end a streak in which he had gone 0-for-23.

Michael Massey and Hunter Renfroe each had two-run hits to make it 6-0.

The victory went to Alec Marsh (3-0).

For the Orioles, Venezuelan Anthony Santander is 2-1. Mexican Ramon Urias 2-1.

For the Royals, Venezuelans Maikel Garcia 5-1, Salvador Perez 3-1 with one run scored. Puerto Ricans Melendez 4-2 with two runs scored and four RBIs, Nelson Velazquez 3-1 with one run scored.
