After failing to reach an agreement between the parties, the United States Department of Justice requested a protection order for access to “classified” documents in the case against former governor Wanda Vazquez, banker Julio Herrera Velutini and financial advisor Mark Rossini .

In a motion presented before the judge Silvia Carreno Coll in the Federal Court in San Juan, the prosecutor Ryan Crosswell He explained that this is “national security” material protected by the “Classified Information Procedures” Act (CIPA).

He noted that the order responds to the statute that establishes a court supervision protocol to protect “national security.” Crosswell said that “during the litigation of this case and in preparation for trial,” the prosecution learned that “one or more of the defendants may seek to raise defenses to implicate classified national security information.”
