“Not acceptable”: Mets place Puerto Rican Jorge Lopez on assignment after reactions after his expulsion

NY- Puerto Rican Jorge Lopez will be cut by the New York Mets after the reliever threw his cap on the ground and his glove into the stands following his ejection Wednesday at Citi Field.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza called the moment “not acceptable” and said it would be handled internally. Lopez expressed no remorse for his display.

“I have no regrets,” he said. “I am what I am. “I think I’ve been on the worst team, probably in the entire damn MLB,” he said in English.

Lopez allowed a two-run home run to Shohei Ohtani late in New York’s 10-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Moments later, the right-hander was ejected for yelling at third-base umpire Ramon de Jesus over an appeal decision on Freddie Freeman’s controlled swing.
