Official: “Manny” Rodriguez will defend his crown against the undefeated Ryosuke Nishida on May 4 in Japan

The Puerto Rican Emmanuel “Manny” Rodriguez will defend his crown from the 118 pounds of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) against the undefeated Japanese Ryosuke Nishida in the main fight of a card that will be staged on May 4 at the EDION Arena Osaka, in Japan.

The date of the sports program was confirmed on Wednesday by Kameda Promotionsa company that won the auction of the Puerto Rican’s first starting defense.

Nishida has an unblemished record of eight wins and one knockout. Although he is not recognized as a knockout, he has victories against boxers like his compatriots on his resume. Shohei Omoriwho was a challenger for the bantamweight title of the World Boxing Organization (WBO); and Daigo Higafrom whom he took the WBO Asia Pacific 118-pound title.

Nishida became the IBF’s mandatory challenger with a unanimous decision victory against Mexican Christian Medina Jimenez on August 11, 2023. This was the Japanese’s last fight.
