On stage a comedy that validates the beauty of obese women

In a country where the term beauty is subject to what a scale dictates, the theatrical piece “The Fat Club” aims to show the other side of the coin and highlight the qualities of overweight women.

The play, inspired by the novel by Judith Morales Perez, will go on stage from May 3 to 5, at the Teatro Victoria Espinosa in Santurce. Through humor, obese women are invited to reflect and validated, without belittling their body size.

The piece will feature performances by Yaza, Ninotchka Edeed, Zor Ortiz, Paola Castro, Franllelyka, Dana Sultana, Paola Gabriela, Jose Chema and a special performance by Angel Manuel, under the theatrical adaptation and direction of Abi Villarreal.

The story revolves around the murder of “Diana Sambolin”, a renowned coordinator of beauty pageants in Puerto Rico. This woman was characterized by obvious physical attractiveness, framed in the body of a fat woman; which challenges the conceptualization of beauty pageants.
