Pais Sonora Festival or how to add spaces for the alternative music scene in Puerto Rico

For some, it is called indie or alternative music. For others, beyond labels, music is music. Perhaps what distinguishes her, at times, is how she moves, almost out of daring, to the margins of the mainstream or trend. On the one hand, there is creative freedom, but there is also the task of self-management and adding spaces to expose other voices.

In this continuous effort to manifest alternative music, Pais Sonora emerges, a new alternative music festival that aspires to add more opportunities for Puerto Rican musicians and artists, — especially independent ones — in the Center of Fine Arts (CBA) of Santurce next April 5, 6 and 7.

The desire to create this festival arose after conversations between singer-songwriters Melissa Ocasio, Mila, Andrea Cruz and Mildred Eunis in the middle of a musical tour in Colombia, recalled Ocasio, who is also one of the producers of the event as part of the No Toquemos collective. Land. It was a leap or perhaps a concern about how to occupy spaces where people would not necessarily imagine that alternative or indie music could sound.
