Pedro Pierluisi assures that agencies and the Fiscal Board agree to increase the minimum refundable incentive to 0

The governor Pedro Pierluisi assured this Tuesday that the amendments incorporated in the Senate to the joint resolution that makes the “refundable incentive” viable – which will be granted to certain taxpayers during this payroll season – will not have a negative impact on the possibility that the Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF) endorses the relief.

According to Pierluisi, The amount of $250 million approved for reimbursements is enough to raise the benefit to a minimum of $200 that each taxpayer eligible for the benefit will receive.

“That should not be (an obstacle). Already (the Department of) Tax authorities was consulted, Aafaf (Financial Advisory Authority and Tax Agency) as well. There is no controversy in that. No one can object to the smallest incentive amount being $200, when the Treasury has said that we have the funds to honor it. And the Board… everyone who had to be consulted was consulted,” said the president.

In Monday’s session, the Senate introduced an amendment that raised to $200 the amount that all individuals who, based on the tax calculation, were eligible for a smaller refund would receive. The language approved in the House of Representatives provided that those whose calculation resulted in a refund of zero to $100 would be rounded up to $100, and those subject to an incentive of $100 to $200 would be rounded up to $200.
