Pedro Pierluisi signs measure that makes shooting from cars or boats a serious crime

The governor Pedro Pierluisi announced Sunday that it signed 10 measures into law, including one to amend the Weapons Law for it to be considered a serious crime to fire a firearm from a vehicle or vessel.

With the signing of House Bill 273, the driver’s or navigation license will be suspended for a period of five years from the expiration of the sentence received, of any person who fires a weapon.

“The Department of Justice found no legal impediment to the measure becoming law. In addition, the Departments of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP), Public Security (DSP) and Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) favored the new law.”read the press release.

Pierluisi also signed the House Bill 517, which amends the Law to authorize the Puerto Rico Police to issue criminal records, in order to automatically eliminate convictions of less serious crimes if the convicted person is not in the Registry of People Convicted of Sexual Crimes and Abuse Against Minorsin it Registry of People Convicted of Corruption Crimes or in the Registry of Persons Convicted of Violations of the Law for the Prevention and Intervention against Domestic Violence.
