Pedro Pierluisi will not alter the current energy model in the six months he has left as governor

Naguabo – In the six months he has left in charge of the country, the governor Pedro Pierluisi will not make decisions that alter the current energy model and, rather, will focus on managing based on the current statutes, which include the privatizers. LUMA Energy and Generate PR in the equation, he indicated this Tuesday.

“What we are doing is complying with the Law 17 of 2019, which is the energy public policy law; complying with the Law 120 of 2018which is what requires that we have private operators in charge of transmission and distribution, and generation in Puerto Rico. Our role is to comply with the laws we have. As for changes in the laws, that is left for the next legislative session in 2025″stated the president.

Both the LUMA and Genera PR contracts were signed under Pierluisi’s administration. When asked if it was a mistake to establish both public-private alliances, he responded: “Entering that, for me, adds nothing. Actually, that judgment was already given at the time. The Legislature approved the transformation of the system. At the time, the government signed that contract that became law, so what we have been doing here is enforcing the law.”
