Pete Alonso hits his 40th home run of the season in Mets’ win against Mariners

NY- Pete Alonso hit two home runs and drove in four runs to reach 40 home runs and 100 RBIs for the second consecutive season in the New York Mets’ 6-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.

Jeff McNeil also had a homer — after falling one home run short of a cycle on Saturday — and New York took two of three against the Mariners, who lost a series for the first time since the series against Baltimore between August 11 and 13.

Seattle entered the day atop the American League West, one game ahead of Houston and two ahead of Texas.

Alonso had an RBI single in the first inning before his two-run shot in the third to become the fifth player in Major League history with at least three 40-homer seasons in his first five years.

The feat was achieved by Ralph Kiner and Eddie Matthews, both members of the Hall of Fame, as well as Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols.

For the Mariners, the Dominicans Julio Rodriguez 4-0, Teoscar Hernandez 4-1. Venezuelan Eugenio Suarez 3-0 with one scored.

For the Mets, Puerto Rican Francisco Lindor was 0 for 4 with one run scored. Venezuelan Francisco Alvarez 4-1 with an RBI. Dominican Ronny Mauricio 1-for-4 with one run scored.
