Pitcher Anthony Maldonado, of Puerto Rican roots, will debut with the Marlins in the Major Leagues

The right-handed pitcher of Puerto Rican descent Anthony Maldonado He will debut on Friday in the ‘Great Circus’ when the Miami Marlins’ game against the Washington Nationals starts at IoanDepot Park.

Maldonado joined the big team on Friday to occupy the space of left-hander Jesus Luzardo, who was scheduled to pitch against Washington. Luzardo was ruled out due to injury.

Maldonado is expected to pitch few innings in his outing, as he primarily acts as a reliever.

Maldonado, 26, participated in the Marlins’ spring camp, but was eventually demoted to the organization’s Triple A affiliate.

In it spring training, Maldonado pitched six innings, fanned eight, walked four, allowed three hits and one run to record a 1.50 ERA. He also scored a save.

So far this campaign in Triple A with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, Maldonado, who pitched for Puerto Rico in the last World Baseball Classic, is 3-0 in 11.2 innings pitched as a reliever.
