Police arrest demonstrators protesting at Columbia University against the war in Gaza

NY — Police officers detained protesters Tuesday after Columbia University called on authorities to end the protest pro-Palestine on the campus of NY.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m., police, wearing helmets and riot shields, gathered at the university entrance. Officers stormed Hamilton Hall, an administrative building on campus, to evacuate it.

Protesters had occupied Hamilton Hall more than 12 hours earlier, expanding their protest from a camp elsewhere on campus that has been there for nearly two weeks.

The Columbia protests earlier this month sparked demonstrations that now stretch from California to Massachusetts. As May graduation ceremonies approach, administrators face increased pressure to clear protesters.
