Police assure that “hate crime is never ruled out” in investigations of murders of members of the LGBTT+ community

After two separate incidents were reported on Thursday in Isabella and San Juan in which a woman and a man were murdered, both from the LGBTT+ communityhe Police Bureau responded to the claims of activist groups and assured that in these cases “Hate crimes are never ruled out.”

“All investigations carried out by the Puerto Rico Police involve examining all possible angles to determine a motive and/or cause of death. This is dictated by the investigation protocols in all cases, including those of the death of a person who belongs to the LGBTQ+ community, since for us the life of every human being is equally valuable,” reads a statement issued on Friday by the Office of Uniformed Press.

“In cases of violent or suspicious deaths of people from the LGBTQ+ community, hate crimes are never ruled out. However, the investigation cannot focus on a single motive, because the purpose must be to find the truth about the events and who is responsible for them, in the event that there is a criminal element,” the Police added in written statements.
