Police search the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the residence of its former president Luis Rubiales

Barcelona – Police arrested at least six people and searched the offices of the Spanish Football Federation and the former president Luis Rubiales Wednesday as part of an investigation into corruption and money laundering that includes suspicions about the agreement reached by the RFEF to take the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.

The Civil Guard indicated that Rubiales was not among the six arrested. But a person familiar with the operation told The Associated Press that he was among five other people being investigated. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the operation publicly.

Civil Guard officers searched the Federation offices near Madrid as well as a home owned by the former president in Granada, a city in the south of the country. Rubiales was not at the property when the agents arrived, the Civil Guard added.

According to the prosecutor’s office, a total of 11 properties were searched for documents and The operation is expected to conclude with seven arrests and the identification of five more people as being investigated.
