Polls open in France for parliamentary elections in which the far right leads the polls

Paris – Polls across mainland France opened on Sunday in the first round of an exceptional parliamentary election that could leave the French government in the hands of nationalist and far-right forces for the first time since the Nazi era.

The outcome of the two-round elections, which will conclude on July 7, could affect European financial markets, Western support for Ukraine and the management of France’s nuclear arsenal and global military strength.

Many French voters are frustrated by inflation and economic concerns, as well as the leadership of President Emmanuel Macron, who they consider arrogant and disconnected from their daily reality. The National Rally, Marine Le Pen’s anti-immigrant platform, has channeled that discontent, especially through platforms like TikTok, and dominates all the opinion polls before the elections.
