Ports and maritime transportation services reopen after the close passage of Hurricane Tammy

The Integrated Transportation Authority (ATI) announced on Sunday the reopening of ports and the resumption of maritime transportation service for residents of Vieques and Culebra.

Likewise, the resumption of the boat service between Catano and San Juan was reported.

“Passengers with tickets for any departure canceled during the service disruption caused by Hurricane Tammy forecasts will be able to transfer them for another trip.”reads an ATI post through the agency’s X account.

On Friday afternoon, the Coast Guard activated its Yankee status for the seaports of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands as the hurricane passed through the region.

During the Yankee condition, port facilities remain closed to the entry of commercial vessels unless authorized by the harbor master. Likewise, vessels weighing more than 500 tons and that do not have an approved request to remain in the area must depart immediately.

According to ATI, the determination to reopen the maritime transport ports came after a security evaluation by the Coast Guard, although, for the moment, that entity has not commented on the determination to lift the Yankee condition.
