Tegucigalpa – The Honduran Franciscan priest Leopoldo Serrano He asked the president of his country on Thursday, Xiomara Castrowho receives him -after walking at least 149 miles- to explain the needs of his community, in the department of Saint Barbara (west), whose inhabitants are victims of storms Eta and Iota in 2020.

“That is why I have come to remind and inform the president. I am not here to protest, I am only here to remind that there is money in the budget,” Serrano told EFE when he was about 12 miles from Tegucigalpa, after a walk that began eight days ago from the city of San Pedro Sula (north).

The help that the priest is calling for is for the community of San Francisco de Asis, where more than 300 families now live. In November 2020, they abandoned their village, La Reina, because it was buried by a huge landslide caused by the torrential rains left by Eta and Iota.
