Process begins to revoke the pass extended under Law 25 to the accused of feminicide in Manati

The process of revoking the pass extended under Law 25 to the convict Hermes Avila Vazquez, 52 years old, accused of perpetrating the ninth feminicide of the year, officially began this Thursday with the holding of an initial hearing at Institution 705 of the Bayamon Correctional Complexconfirmed the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR).

The secretary of the DCR, Ana Escobar Pabondetailed, in written statements, the actions and precautionary measures taken by the agency at the beginning of the investigation and in response to the questions surrounding the pass granted to Avila Vazquez who, allegedly, murdered Ivette Joan Melendez Vega on April 21.

Escobar Pabon explained that the hearing was held before an examining officer from the Legal Division of the Inmate Discipline Office and before a socio-penal technician from the Diversion Program. The official set a deadline of 30 days for the internal investigation into the issuance of the pass to Avila Vazquez to be completed.
