Prosecutors favor postponing Donald Trump’s sentence after Supreme Court ruling

NY – The prosecutors of Manhattan On Tuesday they agreed with the request of the legal team of the former president of the United States Donald Trump (2017-2021) to postpone his criminal sentence so that the judge overseeing the case can study whether a recent ruling by the Federal Supreme Court could affect his sentence, according to court documents.

It is now up to the judge to determine whether to postpone sentencing, which seems likely since both sides have agreed.

Trump, who in June became the first former US president to be found guilty by a jury in a criminal trial on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to paying a porn actress to protect his 2016 presidential run, was scheduled to be sentenced on July 11.

However, on Monday the former president’s lawyers filed a letter asking to vacate his recent criminal conviction and postpone his upcoming sentencing, citing the Supreme Court’s decision to grant partial immunity to former presidents.

On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled for the first time that former presidents have broad immunity from prosecution.
