Ceballos had originally been selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 14th round. However, Ceballos decided to move from San Jacinto College in Texas to the University of Oregon to continue his studies and play third base.

Melendez, 18 years old, chosen by the Chicago Cubs in the 206th at-bat of the seventh round, he maintained a .237 average with nine hits and three RBIs in 38 at-bats in the Rookie League.
