Puerto Rican Anthony Maldonado pitches three scoreless innings in his Major League debut

Miami — Mexican Joey Meneses hit a two-run single to break the tie in the eighth and the Washington Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 3-1 on Friday.

Jacob Young and Trey Lipscomb each had two hits, while Derek Law (1-1) struck out five in two scoreless innings in relief of the Nationals.

The Marlins lost their fourth straight game and have the worst record in the National League at 6-21. They still haven’t won in the first series games.

Marlins reliever Calvin Faucher (1-1) allowed a leadoff single to Lipscomb and walked CJ Abrams with one out. Jesse Winker reached the infield with a single before Meneses’ line to center,

Kyle Finnegan pitched the ninth for his eighth save.
