Puerto Rican artist Jun Martinez wins prestigious award at the Royal College of Art in London

Every day that passes shows that Puerto Rico is an inexhaustible cradle of artists in all their facets, such as music, acting and plastic arts, among others, who continually shine outside the island.

The most recent example that can be taken is that of the painter Jose “Jun” Martinez, who recently won the prestigious “Valerie Beston Artists Trust Award”given by a jury that selected him among the 144 master’s students of the university’s class of 2024 Royal College of Art in London.

The Bayamon native began a master’s degree, which takes one year to complete, at this important school that, for the tenth consecutive year, has been ranked as the number one art and design university in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024. In fact, admissions are extremely competitive, as the university boasts an impressive lineup of alumni, including Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, David Hockney, Bridget Riley, Chris Ofili and Tracey Emin.
