Puerto Rico is proclaimed champion of the U-17 Pan American Volleyball Cup undefeated

Puerto Rico won the gold medal of the I U-17 Pan American Cup men’s team with a victory in five sets (25-10, 23-25, 25-27, 25-16, 15-12) over host Mexico at the Colima Multifunctional Auditorium on Saturday.

The national team was crowned champion undefeated with a 4-0 record. Mexico took second place with a 4-1 record. Meanwhile, Cuba achieved bronze in the event by beating Canada 3-1.

In November 2023, Puerto Rico also defeated Mexico for the title of the Norceca U-17 Continental Championship.

The Puerto Ricans dominated the Mexicans with a block party 20 to 6. In addition, they had a 62 to 52 advantage in attacks. Both teams scored 4 service points. Puerto Rico made one more error than Mexico (28-27).

Puerto Rico’s captain and corner hitter, Gustavo Alvarez, was the top scorer in the game with 27 points (24 attacks, three blocks). Corner player Adrian Carrillo contributed 24 points (23 attacks, one serve). Center back Dylan Lopez added 12 points, 8 of them the most in blocking points. Center back Jorge Suarez scored 6 blocking points.
