Puerto Rico will formally request a change of venue for the 2026 Caribbean Series

With the confirmation that Puerto Rico will be the scene of the preliminary round games corresponding to Group A of the World Baseball Classic in 2026, the president of the Professional Baseball League Roberto Clemente (LBPRC), Juan Flores Galarzawill request the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC) to change the venue of the Caribbean series, which is scheduled to be held on the island that same year.

Major League Baseball officially announced this Thursday that Puerto Rico will once again host a round of the World Cup tournament. Hiram Bithorn Stadium served as the venue for the first two rounds of the inaugural Classic in 2006. In the following editions, in 2009 and 2013, the first round was hosted on the island.

The Caribbean Series, the event that brings together the champion teams of the winter leagues, takes place the first week of February, while the World Cup competition is held in March. By 2025, the city of Mexicali will host the Caribbean fair.

“The alternative is that we are going to find a way to do some type of negotiation to move the 2026 Caribbean Series to another date”Flores Galarza told El Nuevo Dia by telephone.
