Researchers from the UPR in Rio Piedras will present their studies on human rights in Austria

Twelve researchers from Rio Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) will travel this week to the city of Graz, in Austriato participate and present their work in a conference that will serve as a forum to discuss the human rights and the use of camps as places of refuge, detention and imprisonment.

In the event, called “The 2nd Graz/Puerto Rico International Conference on Human Rights from an Inter-American Perspective”examples of healing, resistance and protest that have emerged in response to these spaces will also be examined, covering topics such as history, ethics, art, literature, immigration policies and educational projects.

“Camps today are quite common in various places around the world. Every year, there are more spaces like these to deprive people of their freedom. There are debates about them, but their number continues to increase.”the doctor pointed out Don Walicekprofessor at the Faculty of Humanities, about the focus of the conference, in which he will offer several presentations on his studies in the military prison of Guantanamoin Cuba.
