Review: the reasons why “Ghostbusters, The Frozen Empire” is worth watching

The franchise of Ghostbusters of Sony Pictures has taken an unexpectedly interesting turn with the premiere of “Ghostbusters, The Frozen Empire”, the fifth feature film with this intellectual property and the third sequel that directly connects with the original film.

Although there are several references to the incarnations of 80s Ghostbustersincluding the animated series, This production avoids being completely dismissed as a rehash by taking advantage of new characters and giving agency to the stars of the original film.

Despite being presented as a “reboot” with a plot dominated by new characters and in another location, the previous film (Ghostbusters Afterlife) relied entirely on the nostalgia of the original film and used the dramatic structure of the ’84 film for the development of its plot.

The film that hits theaters this Thursday takes the characters from “Afterlife” and the original film and has them save the world from another apocalyptic event that happens in New York. However, this arrives with a pacing and tone that doesn’t feel like a clone of the original film. Most of the new characters have an individual conflict and the involvements of Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts There is nothing else to work on the public’s nostalgia.
