River causes house to collapse in Minnesota

Iowa – A house teetering on the edge of an eroded river bank near a dam. Minnesota fell into the water, in the most recent example of the havoc left by the extreme weather that hits the north-central region of USA.

Video shows the home, owned by the Barnes family, falling into the swollen Blue Earth River near Mankato on Tuesday night. A buttress of the Rapidan Dam was partially damaged Monday, causing the river to overflow around the dam and eroding the bank where the house sat. The family had evacuated the place before the incident.

“It is a terrifying and difficult situation”Jenny Barnes, whose family has run the nearby Dam store for decades, told KARE-TV on Tuesday. She also had concerns about the store.

“That is our life too. This is our business; It is our way of life. “It’s everything to us.” Barnes said. “There is no way to stop it. He’s going to go wherever he wants. He is going to take what he wants.”
