Roberto Alomar wants to compete in the winter league with his new San Juan Senators

The Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (LBPRC) announced this Tuesday the return of one of the founding franchises of winter baseball, the Senators of San Juana team that will be revived by the former big leagues Roberto Alomar.

The traditional San Juan team will replace the RA12, a team owned by Alomar and which since its debut in the 2020-2021 LBPRC season had been conceived as a project to develop players. The team never had a winning record and went 11-29 last season.

For the 2024-2025 season – which begins on November 8 – Alomar proposed and got the LBPRC board of directors to approve the name change.

The last time a team identified itself as the Senators was in the 2014-2015 season.

Alomar pointed out that his idea is to put together a competitive team with the help of reinforcements. The former player did not offer additional details about the team, as he hopes to do so at a later press conference.
