Ronald Acuna suffers ACL injury and will miss the rest of the season

The star of the Atlanta Braves, Ronald Acuna Jr.., will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during Sunday’s 8-1 win at Pittsburgh.

The reigning National League Most Valuable Player opened the game with a double to right center field off Martin Perez. With Marcell Ozuna at the plate, Acuna advanced to third on an attempted stolen base and injured his knee. Acuna remained on the ground for several minutes while he was treated, pointing to his left leg before leaving the diamond.

The Braves’ initial diagnosis was left knee pain. But the team announced Sunday night that an MRI showed a complete tear that will require season-ending surgery.
