Rudolph Giuliani loses law license after 2020 election ruling

NY – Rudolph Giulianiwho was mayor of New York City, federal prosecutor and legal advisor to Donald Trumpwas stripped of his license to practice law in the state on Tuesday after a court found he repeatedly made false statements about the former Republican president’s loss in the 2020 election.

A New York appeals court ruled that Giuliani “should be debarred from the practice of law, effective immediately and until further notice by this Court, and his name removed from the rolls of attorneys and legal counsel in the State of New York.”

Arthur Aidala, Giuliani’s lawyer, said that “we are obviously disappointed” but not surprised by the decision. He added that “we will make a valiant effort” to overturn the decision, but “we saw it coming.”

The court, in its decision, said Giuliani “substantially admitted” most of the facts underlying the allegations of misconduct.
